Clovelly Vineyards

Our Vineyard is situated on the south-facing hillside of Clovelly Farm overlooking the Chester River. The orientation of the vineyard allows the grapes to receive optimal sunlight and beneficial river breezes that help regulate temperatures and promote vine health.

Our vines were planted over four years beginning in 2009 and completed in 2012. The plantings cover ten acres and originally included more than ten varieties of grapes. The varieties included Vinifera and hybrid varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Barbera, Merlot, Zinfandel, Sangiovese, Vidal, Traminette, Chambourcin and Pinot Gris. Plantings were spaced 6 " apart with 10’-row spacing.

In the spring for 2014, the Zinfandel was removed to make room for more Merlot. Merlot is used in blending many red wines and is much easier to grow than Zinfandel. Over the next few years, we plan to increase the density of the plantings throughout the vineyard to increase yields and flavors.
